2018 SeasonĀ
What an amazing season for Team Orange. Most importantly, the horses have all finished sound and well and are having a short break before the weather changes. They have already transformed themselves into fat, furry beasts!
The young horses have learned a lot. Heidi had 6 runs at BE100, placing 4 times and showing a lot of promise. Diego has gained hugely in strength and confidence and we have high hopes for him next year.
The ex racehorses have had several good placings and a fantastic win for Zippi Jazzman in the ROR championships at Barbury Castle International Horse Trials, with Star of Memory finishing in third place.
Two disappointing Irish trips aside, Impromptu (Baz) has been super consistent with multiple placings and an advanced win at Little Downham. We are sure there is a three star win to come!
We have lots of smart youngsters to work with over the winter and it will be exciting to watch them progress.
Orange has had a fantastic season, finishing 10th in the British Eventing horse rankings. Of 7 runs he has clocked up 4 wins, including 2 advanced, a CIC*** and CCI*** and 3 thirds at OI, advanced and CIC***. All this with a new jockey and coming back post injury.
Huge thank you to the whole Orange Team for making this possible, and special thankyou to Izzy's generous sponsors -
Woof Wear, for keeping our horses legs protected
Equipe for providing super smart fly bonnets
Haygain for providing an amazing nebuliser that enabled Orange to perform at his best after suffering from a respiratory allergy.
An even bigger thank you to all of Team Orange and Team Taylor.
Horse Events Elmwood
A rosette for Diego at Horse Events Elmwood - his first ever! He is starting to get the hang of this competition business with an obedient test and a great clear round. Sunshine and lovely ground too, thank you Horse Events. The horses are having an easy week next week before coming in and then we will be busy getting the babies out and about over the winter. The older horses will just be kept ticking over, with some dressage training for Orange.
Little downham
Amazing end to the season for Basil and Orange at Little Downham Horse Trials. Baz needed a nice confident run to end his season after his Irish adventures. He jumped a lovely double clear in a competitive OI section to finish 3rd.
Orange was very excited to be out at a party, and bounced around to win the advanced and a bottle of vintage Veuve. Thank you to Tina Ure and her team for a fantastic day as always
Ballindenisk
Made the trip to Ballindenisk with Baz in the CIC***. He has not had luck on his side in any of his 3 star attempts, having been ill at Killguilkey. No more successful this time around. The weather was atrocious making for very wet, muddy extreme conditions. Baz hated it and we did not run him XC.
Jason is back from Nigel and Karen Ridouts, and they have done a lovely job with him. He has a good school report and will now go back out with our other 3 year old, Teddy, until the spring
Millstreet International Horse Trials Winner
Amazing few days at Millstreet International Horse Trials 2017. Such a well run, friendly event with beautifully presented courses, fantastic going, a great atmosphere with stunning scenery.
Tracie Robinson was on hand to help with the dressage, and Orange produced a competitive test for a 45 (around 70%). He and Izzy are really starting to look like a partnership with a much better understanding of each other. Very pleased with him.
The cross country course was imaginatively designed and built by Mike Etherington Smith, and immaculately presented with plenty to jump and enough places to make a silly mistake. Orange jumped clear and a perfectly judged 2 seconds inside
the time to lie second over night.
The trot up on Sunday morning gave us no cause for concern and Orange jumped a great round to take the win ahead of Blyth Tait and Darius. It's hard to believe that Orange and Izzy have only done 6 events together, but they have recorded 3 thirds and 3 wins - an advanced, a CIC*** and now a CCI***. Obviously we already know that Orange is a legend, but he is just making sure that the rest of the world knows it too!
West Wilts
Good day in the sunshine at West Wilts with Heidi and Diego. Diego managed a clear round in the show jumping only to get himself into a muddle at a double xc and pick up an annoying 20 penalties. Heidi did a stunning test for a 22, despite deciding that she had an insect in her ear in the free walk and trying to remove it with her hind foot! She jumped beautifully to finish 5th in a super competitive 5yo class, so just missed out on an Osberton qualification.
Camphire International Horse TrialsĀ
Fantastic trip to Camphire Horse Trials in County Cork. Never been before and what a lovely, friendly and well run event in a stunning setting in the Blackwater Valley.
Orange had a few days to settle in before his dressage, and produced another improved test to score 40.5. There is still more to come, which is very exciting, and he was very relaxed and obedient.
Showjumping was late on Saturday, and caused its fair share of problems but Orange jumped a lovely clear. He then ran cross county in torrential rain on Sunday, but skipped around with one time penalty to finish 3rd in the CIC*** with Team Taylor also claiming first and second spots. A huge achievement and an amazing result, all 3 horses jumping double clear.
Aston le Walls Advanced Winner
The Golden Wonder enjoyed his outing to Aston le Walls advanced very much today. He was .3 off the lead in the dressage then jumped a beautiful double clear to win by over 12 penalties!! Thank you Team Taylor.
Upton House
Another good run for Heidi at one of our local events, Upton House Horse Trials. Heidi thinks she is now quite a professional at this eventing lark, this being her 5th event. She finished on her dressage score of 28, in 5th place in a very close run section. She is very pleased with herself
Tweseldown
Very early start, and a good outing for Heidi in the 5 year old class at Tweseldown. First in for dressage and the horn beeped before she had even trotted around the arena, but a good test to score 30. One down show jumping and a lovely clear xc to finish 10th
Barbary Castle International Horse Trials Winner!
Brilliant few days in the sunshine at beautiful Barbury Castle International Horse Trials with Zippi and Stan contesting the Retraining of Racehorses Championships.
Both did good tests for a score of 29. Zippi had one down showjumping, and Stan two after being rather dramatic about the water tray. They stormed round the cross country inside the time to finish first and third.
The top ten had to come back on Saturday to jump a second round of showjumping. I was a bit concerned how well they would cope, having run the day before on firm ground. The boys (and Izzy obviously) were total legends jumping in the electric atmosphere of the main arena. They both jumped beautiful rounds, with Zippi taking the win and Stan finishing 3rd. Izzy looked a little concerned when Brioney and I both cried
Very proud of how far these two have come - for those who don't know the story, Zippi cost 500 guineas from Ascot Sales. Stan was bought locally from David and Lucy Bridgewater and has been a superstar from day one
Kilguilkey House Mallow International Horse Trials Winner
What a fantastic event Kilguilkey House Mallow International Horse Trials is! Such a friendly and helpful team, beautifully designed and presented courses and amazing ground.
We had a bit of a nightmare trip out after the horses weren't allowed to sail due to high winds which made for a very long journey.
Baz led the dressage on 37.5 with a stunning test but was not himself jumping or xc and Izzy pulled him up half way around. Very disappointing after a great start but much more important to have them both home safe.
This was Izzy's 3rd event with Orange and it's still a learning curve getting to know each other but we were delighted with a 43.7 dressage and clear sj.
The XC track was plenty serious enough and Izzy took advantage of the fantastic ground to storm around and win with the second fastest time of the day. Could not be more pleased.Awesome result for such a new partnership. Thank you #izzytayloreventing
Farley Hall
Farley Hall today for the BE100 with Heidi. Really pleased with her dressage and a very grown up Sj round. She picked up an annoying 20 pens xc which cost her 3rd place, but she hasn't been xc since Keysoe and was just a bit surprised by the ditch. Diego was balloted so has to wait for their next outing to Tweseldown
