Chatsworth
What an amazing weekend at the beautiful Chatsworth International Horse Trials in Derbyshire, in glorious sunshine. Orange remained settled in his dressage test to score 42, leaving him in 7th position overnight. The big atmosphere show jumping caused him no problems, and he jumped a flawless clear round amid cheers from the Team Orange fan club. The cross country course was big and testing but Orange rose to the challenge to jump his 10th consecutive double clear. Of the 60 starters in the section, there were only 21 XC clears, and 4 double clears and we were thrilled when Orange finished in 8th place. On to Tattersalls!
Aston le walls
Busy week for Team Orange, with Scooter, Basil and Orange going to Aston le Walls on Thursday before Chatsworth at the weekend. Scooter was as amazing as ever, with a good dressage of 35. Apart from a slightly bouncy test first time out at Isleham, Scooter has been super consistent in his tests this season. He does not find this phase easy but has given his best each time. Yet another double clear followed and Scooter will now have a well deserved holiday until we get back from Tattersalls.
Rockingham Castle
A great weekend for Team Orange at Rockingham Castle International Horse Trials - one of our favourite events. Scooter was on top form for a 35.5 dressage and a double clear, which left him one mark out of the placings but with another 2 points to his name.
Burnham Market
We had originally planned to run Orange in the CIC*** at Burnham Market but a bruised foot left us with Saint and Basil! Saint had a fantastic first outing of 2014, coming 6th in the BE100 while Basil finished just out of the placings after a steady XC round.
Weston Park
Mixed fortunes for Team Orange at Weston Park. Basil and Zippi, having his first outing of 2014, were both running in the novice class. Basil produced his best test so far to score a 30. Zippi had forgotten what white boards look like and did not give the test his full concentration! The ground in the Showjumping arena was quite boggy and clearly both horses need more practice in these conditions. Basil redeemed himself with a good clear XC around a testing track.
Belton
Orange and Scooter both went to Belton for the intermediate. Scooter did a beautiful test and jumped a lovely round in the show jumping, just knocking the last part of the treble. Much to his disgust we did not run him XC! Orange also did a good test, and a great double clear .
Gatcombe Park
Great first outing of 2014 for Orange at Gatcombe Park. We experienced every extreme of weather, from sunshine to hailstorms. A brilliant test was marred a little by a few freestyle movements but was followed up by a lovely double clear.
Isleham
A flying start to the season for Team Orange at Isleham horse trials in Cambridgeshire. It was well worth the drive for a dry day with excellent going considering the recent weather. Basil was very pleased to be out and added sound effects to his test. He was unlucky to tip a rail in the Showjumping but produced a classy clear round cross country.
Sponsorship!
Very exciting news for the Orange Eventing team - Lyneham Heath Equestrian have very generously offered to sponsor us for the 2014 season. Lyneham Heath boasts the most amazing facilities with over 200 XC fences to suit horses of all levels, a full course of show jumps on grass and training available from the one and only Owen Moore. We are very grateful to Mrs Sandberg for this great opportunity. Check out http://www.lynehamheathequestrian.co.uk and follow them on Facebook and Twitter for up to date information.
Not long to go ...
It's only a few weeks until the start of the event season, if the weather ever lets up. We took Saint, Pinky, Basil, Orange and Zippi to unicorn for some more Showjumping practice. They all jumped very well and Orange particularly enjoyed himself.
Preparations begin ...
Preparations for the start of the 2014 season are now well underway at Team Orange, despite the horrendous weather. Orange contested two mediums at Summehouse EC, coming second in both classes despite a few airs above the ground. The new lorry made its debut outing to Unicorn with Orange, Scooter, Zippi, Basil and Saint. All went well and seemed pleased to be out and about again.
Kings Fancy
Orange Eventing are pleased to welcome a new face for the 2014 season from Laura Shears Eventing - Kings Fancy aka 'Nancy'. Bred and originally produced by Mary King, Nancy is by the prolific event sire Rock King out of Mary's foundation mare Kings Mistress (a full sister to international showjumper No Complaints by Louella Inshallah). Nancy's best result to date is runner up position at Bramham CCI*** and she has completed several four star events.
